DCMetroDads, is an official chapter of Daddyshome, Inc. Daddyshome, a non profit group, whose vision is to be the voice for stay at home fathers and those who are thinking of becoming a stay at home father, is a network of stay at home fathers living in the Washington DC Metro area.  Currently the organization covers the entire metro area of DC, Maryland, and Virginia.  DCMetroDads provides support to other at-home fathers and fathers who are considering this life choice.  Our mission is to help reduce the isolation our fathers experience, and to provide social and educational activities for our members.

The Numbers:

66.3 million: Estimated number of fathers now in the USA.

26.5 million: Number of married fathers with kids under 18.

98,000: Estimated number of married fathers with kids under, 15 who have remained out of the
labor force for more than a year primarily to care for family while their wives work.

 Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2005

UPDATE: Now (2007) the number an estimated at 159,000 in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

(We believe the above number (159,000) to be very conservative as it does not reflect the thousands of fathers who work from the home or part-time and are also the primary care givers to their children. It also does not reflect the fathers who do not acknowledge their at-home dad status for whatever reason) -- Daddyshome, Inc.
